Four-legged friends at Thetford Academy’s Sixth Form

If you’ve been following Thetford Academy’s Facebook page recently, you might have noticed a slightly ‘paw-culiar’ week of ‘pup-dates.’ Usually, posts come from Headteacher Mr Fordham, but during Year 7 transition week they appeared to be penned by Albus – one of the three support dogs who work on site within Thomas Paine Sixth Form, […]

Growkids opens new clothes bank at Charles Burrell Centre in Thetford

A smiling woman in a red dress holds up two children’s outfits in a bright and neatly organised room full of donated clothes. The space is part of Thetford Vineyard Church’s Growkids initiative, offering free clothing for children. Behind her are racks of children’s clothing sorted by size, plastic tubs on shelves, and a corner with children’s shoes and toys. A large window and green painted walls make the space feel welcoming. On the wall is a banner with logos and social media handles: “@growkidsthetford” and “growkids@thetfordvineyard.church”.

Growkids Clothes Bank has officially reopened at the Charles Burrell Centre, offering a bigger and better space for local families in need of support. A project of Thetford Vineyard Church, Growkids began in 2020 in a small cupboard at CBC, operating as a ‘click and collect’ service during the pandemic. Thanks to the generosity of […]

VJ Day and more this summer at Ancient House Museum

A man in historical uniform stands with arms folded in a museum display. He wears a wide-brimmed hat, khaki green shirt, and vintage military trousers with gaiters and boots. Behind him is a dark wooden door with a diamond-shaped panel, a case of rifles on a yellow-draped table, and a cabinet of china. To his left are other museum props, including a wooden chair, a khaki military coat on a hanger, a helmet, satchels, a fan, and a cardboard cutout of a historical woman holding a tray labelled "Betty's life". A rifle is propped on a tripod in front. The room has wooden beams, red brick, and painted wall panels, giving it a cosy, period-style setting.

This summer, Ancient House is joining thousands of people across the country to remember the end of the Second World War, 80 years ago, on VJ Day – Victory in Japan Day. On Friday 15th August, the museum will host a family-friendly event exploring the role local people played in VJ Day. Visitors will be […]
