Jake Rocks was created by Lisa Marrington in memory of her son, Jake, who sadly passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 2nd April 2024.

The loss of Jake had a profound impact on his family. In the midst of grief, Lisa sought a meaningful way to honour his memory and continue sharing the happiness, kindness and joy he brought to those around him. She began painting rocks as a personal tribute, finding comfort in a creative outlet that allowed her to celebrate Jake’s life while spreading the kindness that came so naturally to him.

Jake was remembered by many as a delight to be around. His infectious smile, sense of humour and ability to make people happy left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Through Jake Rocks, Lisa hoped to keep that spirit alive. What started as a personal act of remembrance has grown into an international community project. Since the Jake Rocks Facebook group was established in August 2025, it has attracted around 280 members, with approximately 150 rocks sent on adventures in Jake’s memory.

Jake Rocks encourages people to find, hide and share painted rocks while posting photographs and stories online. To date, Jake Rocks have travelled to 29 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Egypt, Singapore, Zimbabwe and destinations across Europe and the Caribbean. A particularly special moment took place on 11th May 2026, what would have been Jake’s 17th birthday. Lisa painted around 60 birthday rocks and hid them around Thetford, bringing excitement to local families and inspiring many people to take rocks on their own journeys.

“As a bereaved parent, there is great comfort in knowing that Jake’s name continues to travel to places he never had the opportunity to visit himself. Every photograph, every shared story, and every newly hidden rock reminds me that his impact continues to reach far beyond our family,” said Lisa.

“When I painted the very first rock, I never imagined it would grow into a worldwide community. The kindness shown by so many people has been incredible, and I know Jake would have loved seeing the adventures his rocks have gone on.”
