After a summer of heatwaves, preparing for the cooler and darker months may not seem like a priority. However, enABLE Thetford is encouraging residents to plan ahead for winter.

The group recognises that many people, particularly older residents and those with disabilities, may face difficult choices between buying food and keeping warm. Others may need advice about avoiding scams and rogue traders.
To help residents prepare, enABLE Thetford will hold a Winter Wise event in the Howlett Room at Thetford Methodist Church on Tuesday 22nd September, from 10.30am to 2pm.
The smaller event will give visitors time to sit down with representatives and discuss specific problems they may face during the coming months.
Invited organisations include Age UK Norfolk, Citizens Advice, Community Action Norfolk, Norfolk Trading Standards, Norfolk Police and Fire Services, Breckland Council’s Inspiring Communities team, Breckland Leisure Centre, Active Norfolk, Good Grief Café and Breckland Cancer Support Group.
Advice will cover energy-saving tips, available benefits, grants, discounts and funding, and ways to keep warm safely.
Visitors can also learn about scam prevention, the Norfolk Trusted Traders scheme, cancer and bereavement support, AccessibiliTEA sessions and enABLE Thetford’s Mobility Aids Loan scheme.
Refreshments will be available to buy from The Friendly Café from 10am.
AccessibiliTEA relaunched at the church on 11th September, offering free refreshments and company for older residents and people with disabilities or long-term conditions.
An Autumn Craft Fayre will also take place at Thetford Methodist Church on Saturday 17th October, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
