The Festival of Thetford & Punjab returns on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th July, with a weekend of events celebrating the historical and cultural links between Thetford and the Punjab through the story of Maharajah Duleep Singh and his family.

Ancient House Museum will be open for free across both days, from 10am to 5pm. Visitors can explore new displays, including detailed miniature models of Elveden Hall, and learn more about the Duleep Singh family. A museum trail, Ancient House Secrets, will be running throughout, with a small prize on completion. More information about the museum events can be found on page 9. That evening, the annual Thomas Paine Curry Night takes place at the Thomas Paine Hotel. The event includes a three-course Indian meal and entertainment from the Jaggi Brothers. Tickets are £55 and booking is essential, call 07940 57084.

There will also be henna art, food stalls, arts and crafts, and the Colours of Thetford exhibition. Entry is free and open to all. Whether attending for history, food, music or community, this year’s festival has something for everyone.

The weekend concludes with the Thetford Mela on Sunday 13th July, from 1pm to 5pm, at Thetford Grammar School. The afternoon features performances from the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, Circus Raj, the Jaggi Brothers, G.I.D.H.A dancers, Heera Group’s Dhami & Kumar, B2 Bhangra Star, and martial artists from Baba Fateh Singh Gatka Akhara.
