Queensway were recently visited by M&M Productions, who presented a captivating performance of The Secret Garden for students.

A dramatic scene from a stage performance of The Secret Garden. Two boys dressed in period costume embrace tightly at centre stage, both wearing headset microphones. One wears a checked waistcoat and the other a black top hat. In the background, a girl in a pale pink bonnet and dress stands beneath an arch decorated with pink roses, slightly out of focus. The backdrop shows a painted garden scene with trees and greenery. The lighting is warm and theatrical, emphasising the emotional moment.

Their adaptation brought the classic story to life with vibrant storytelling, expressive acting and immersive staging that kept the audience enthralled. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, cheering and laughing throughout.

Following the performance, the company conducted an interactive drama workshop, allowing students to explore key themes and characters through creative activities. The workshop encouraged participation, confidence-building and teamwork, giving students a hands-on experience of theatrical storytelling.

This experience helps widen children’s understanding of literature, performance and storytelling, enriching their appreciation of the arts. For Year 5 students, the performance also linked closely to their English learning, particularly in developing comprehension, character analysis and narrative structure. Engaging with a live adaptation of a classic novel helped reinforce their understanding of storytelling techniques and themes, making their learning more immersive and memorable.
