Did you know £32 million is raised for good causes every week by players? This month Ancient House is joining with hundreds of National Lottery-funded venues across the UK who are gearing up to say thank you as part of National Lottery Open Week 2026.

Ancient House has benefited from The National Lottery Heritage Fund funding for our current Prince Frederick’s Thetford Museum redisplay project, accompanying events programme, and numerous other projects over the past years. On Saturday 14th March anyone with a National Lottery ticket, Scratchcard or Instant Win Game can visit Ancient House for free. Each ticket entitles up to five people to visit for free. They are looking forward to welcoming you.
Also this month, the museum has activities for all ages:
On Tuesday 10th March join Sian Hogarth playing Gilfa the medieval wise woman to find out about the many remedies she uses for her patients’ ailments in our second afternoon talk of the year. Talks are £5 per person or free for members of Ancient House Friends or Norfolk Museums Service Passholders.
On Friday 13th March, Home Educating families are invited to step into Fairy Tale Land with our interactive literacy workshop aimed at 4- to 6-year-olds. Come and meet Robin Hood, discover how Ancient House links to the story of Three Little Pigs, act out a traditional Japanese folk tale and create some crafts to take home. Just £4 per child including an accompanying adult including museum admission.
Two linocut workshops inspired by the lives of the Duleep Singh family this month – one for young people aged 11-19 years old on Saturday 7th March and one for adults on Saturday 21st March.
All events can be booked on our website.
Ancient House is happy to be hosting a workshop from Queer Norfolk and East Anglia Film Archive on Thursday 12th March 2026 5.30pm to 7pm. This session will look at how to reveal the hidden stories our objects and material hold. They’ll kick things off by watching a couple of films from the EAFA collections, including a remarkable and significant short film recently unearthed as part of this project. Participants will then turn detective, asking questions of the film to tease out its unique history, before turning the spotlight on your own material, whether it’s an artwork, photos from Pride, a video of a performance, meeting notes, a badge – really anything that holds some significance to you – and discover what stories they hold. No need to bring material with you, just an open curious mind.
