Despite a gloomy Bank Holiday forecast, Wretham residents pulled together for a fantastic result at Wretham Lodge Gardens’ Easter Open Day.

The ten-acre gardens at Wretham Lodge, the village’s former rectory, welcomed just over 500 visitors across Sunday and Monday, raising a substantial sum for National Gardens Scheme charities at £7 a head.
Garden owners Gordon Alexander and Ian Salter were on hand to greet guests, while across the road at St Ethelbert’s Church, a hardworking team kept visitors fuelled with a tempting spread of home-cooked food and drink, served throughout each six-hour day. Many guests enjoyed a first visit before touring the gardens, and returned afterwards for a second round!
Refreshments were served in the picturesque setting of the Victorian church, where visitors also had the chance to learn about the building’s history and artefacts. The combined efforts at the church raised over £2,000 for church funds—a rewarding result from a community effort.
