Ancient House is joining the national commemorations for the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with a range of events this May.

On Thursday 8th May, Home Educating families are invited to an interactive workshop exploring the extraordinary stories of local people during VE Day. The session costs £4 per child, with accompanying adults free.
Saturday 10th May features a free VE Day Family Event, where visitors can discover how Thetford celebrated the end of the war in Europe. Activities include codebreaking, handling real artefacts and wartime crafts. The museum is also working with Kids in Museums and Usborne Books to deliver a themed trail inspired by Shrapnel Boys, a new novel by Jenny Pearson about young boys living through the Second World War. The trail includes a ‘Design Your Own VE Day Bunting’ drawing competition with prizes.

During May half term, the museum welcomes wannabe Palaeontologists of all ages for a Fossils and Dinosaurs Day, where visitors can explore real fossils, enjoy themed crafts, and make their own Palaeontologist Pudding. Booking is advised.
On 13th May at 2pm, Hayley Simmons explores fashion and beauty in the Ancient Roman Empire. Tickets are £5 or free for Ancient House Friends and Norfolk Museum Service Passholders. Booking essential. To book please visit: https://bit.ly/ancienthouse
