Victoria Poole has been successfully running her hairdressing salon, Unique Hair & Beauty, in Thetford for the past thirty years.
Starting her business in 1995 at the young age of 22, Victoria had a love of hairdressing as a child, beginning her career as a Saturday girl at her local village salon ‘Debonair’ in Mundford aged 14, before completing her hairdressing apprenticeship employed by Tom Mann at ‘The Hair Company’ in Brandon. Victoria then settled in Thetford as a hair stylist at the popular salon ‘La Pompadour’, where she worked until being made redundant in 1995.
Victoria had built a wonderful clientele in Thetford, so with guidance from her father they found a small shop unit in Doran’s Corner. After a unique effort from her supportive family, Unique Hair opened its doors on October 9th 1995, employing an apprentice and a part-time stylist.
It wasn’t long before the salon needed to expand — a year later it doubled in size, enabling Victoria to employ two more team members as business continued to grow.
In 1999, Victoria completed her Level 3 Advanced Hairdressing qualification, including her C24 and D32 Assessors Award. She went on to train many students, employing apprentices and supporting learners — something she still does to this day.
After completing her assessors award, Victoria successfully launched her own Unique Hair & Beauty Show at the Anchor Hotel in Thetford, showcasing her work including the latest cutting, colour and wedding hair designs.
Becoming a Paul Mitchell approved salon in 2005, Victoria and her team regularly attend training days with Paul Mitchell and visit Salon International each year. The team continues to train both in-salon and in London with their current colour brand, Quif Majicolor by Alan Howard, ensuring they stay at the forefront of modern techniques and styles.
In 2015, Victoria moved into the salon’s newly refurbished modern premises at 7–11 Castle Street — a bright, spacious and air-conditioned space that’s home to a growing team of seven: Georgia, Chloe, Claire, Steph, Maddie, Abi and Millie, plus long-term coworker Jodie who rents a chair.
The salon now offers an even wider range of treatments for all genders, and stocks top brands including Eleven Australia (sulphate-free, PETA-approved), Milkshake, GHD, Olaplex, Goddess, and Paul Mitchell. Their latest addition is Beauty Works, offering professional tape hair extensions and styling products.
