Celebrating reading with Thetford Library – Top book picks for September

As summer draws to a close, it’s the perfect moment to celebrate the achievements of our readers over the past couple months and to look ahead to what’s next at Thetford Library.

Thetford Library’s top book picks are “By Rowan and Yew” and “The Bee Sting”

The Summer Reading Challenge has been a great success again this year, with children across Thetford diving into books, exploring new worlds, and growing their confidence as readers. A huge thank you goes to all the families who supported them – you’ve helped make reading an exciting part of summer.

Adults have been equally busy with the Reading Ahead challenge, which encourages people to try magazines, books, and audiobooks they may not have picked up before. The fun doesn’t stop with the holidays. September sees the launch of the library’s Books of the Month, chosen to inspire both children and adults to keep reading as the evenings draw in.

For younger readers, they’ve picked By Rowan and Yew by Melissa Harrison, a beautifully autumnal adventure, full of friendship, nature and the magic of the changing seasons. For adults, their choice is The Bee Sting by Paul Murray, a colourful, layered story of humour, depth and memorable characters.

Whether you’re a regular library visitor or haven’t been in for a while, September is a great time to pop into the library. Browse the shelves, join one of their friendly events, or simply enjoy the space. The staff are always happy to recommend a good read, whether you’re after the latest bestseller, a hidden gem, or something completely different. Reading is for everyone, at every age. It opens doors, sparks imagination and brings people together. So why not set yourself, or your family, a new reading challenge this autumn? Head down to Thetford Library, they look forward to seeing you there!
