Success for Thetford Short Mat Bowls Club at three club match

Thetford Short Mat Bowls Club recently completed a successful summer season by winning the Summer Afternoon League, followed by success in an annual three-club tournament held at the Charles Burrell Centre on Friday 29th August.

Players compete in an indoor bowls match on green mats inside a community hall. Several participants in green and red team shirts are in action, rolling bowls toward the yellow jack, while others in blue and white shirts watch from the side. The hall is decorated with bunting, and the atmosphere appears focused and friendly.

The clubs involved in the tournament are Harling, Watton and Thetford. The competition was founded by Eddie Bebee who sadly passed away last year and we were delighted to welcome Carol and Joan Bebee to present the trophy to Caralyn Walker from the Thetford Club. The tournament was great fun and played in the friendly atmosphere that Eddie envisaged.

The Thetford Club meets at the Charles Burrell Centre every Wednesday from 7pm to 9.30pm and on Fridays from 2pm to 4.30pm. We will start our winter league programme shortly, playing in both the Breckland League and the Winter Afternoon League. Beginners and those who would like to meet socially for a “roll up” are also most welcome. For more information please contact Pauline on 07787 875957.
