‘Plane’ and simple – Travel vaccines available from Thetford Surgeries

With summer approaching, whether you’re heading off on a tropical adventure, planning a business trip, or visiting family overseas, staying safe and healthy while travelling starts with the right vaccinations.

While not all destinations require them, some do, and it’s best to get them sorted early, as certain vaccines may require multiple doses.

In Thetford, School Lane Surgery and Grove Surgery are offering a comprehensive travel vaccination service in partnership with Watton Medical Practice. This is open to everyone in the local community—not just patients registered at Grove or School Lane.

The service provides expert advice and essential vaccinations tailored to your travel plans. Many locations carry a risk of preventable illnesses such as hepatitis A and typhoid, so it’s important to check your needs in advance.

Some travel vaccines are free on the NHS, while others may incur a cost depending on your destination. The team will clearly explain any charges and offer competitive pricing for any private vaccines required.

If you’re planning a trip abroad, simply visit the surgery’s website and complete the online travel form. This helps the clinical team assess your needs based on your destination, activities and medical history. Once reviewed, they’ll contact you to arrange any necessary appointments.

The travel health service includes personalised advice, administration of NHS and private vaccines, and useful travel health tips. Vaccines against polio, typhoid, hepatitis A and cholera are free on the NHS at the surgery, unlike some private clinics where they are chargeable.

Other vaccines not available on the NHS may incur a fee, which will be discussed during your appointment.

It’s strongly recommended that you contact the team at least six weeks before you travel, as some vaccines need time to take effect.

Whether you’re trekking through Asia, exploring Africa, or relaxing in the Caribbean, make sure your travel plans include protecting your health. You don’t need to be a patient at Grove or School Lane Surgery to access this service – everyone is welcome.

For more information or to get started, visit the website and complete the travel vaccine form today.
