Sandy Smith, Nurse Manager at School Lane Surgery, shares important updates on the Spring Covid Booster Programme and how local surgeries are working together to help protect Thetford residents most at risk.

With the return of the Spring Covid Booster Programme starting on 1st April and running until 17th June 2025, it’s important to have all the information needed to make the best choice for personal health.
This spring, the booster is available to those most at risk, including all adults aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and individuals aged six months and over who are immunosuppressed. Those unsure about their eligibility should check their surgery’s website or call for clarification.
Unlike last year’s autumn booster, this spring’s programme focuses on protecting those more vulnerable to serious illness from Covid. Whilst getting vaccinated is a personal choice, eligible patients are strongly encouraged to consider taking up the offer. Vaccination not only helps protect individuals but also slows the spread of the virus in the community. This concept, often referred to as herd immunity, means that the more people who are protected, the harder it is for the virus to spread, ultimately benefiting the wider community as a whole.
In Thetford, School Lane Surgery are teaming up with Grove Surgery to offer vaccinations at the Healthy Living Centre. Invitations are already being sent out for booking, with Care Homes and housebound patients being prioritised in the first few weeks. Eligible patients will also receive an SMS with a booking link.
Keeping the community safe and healthy remains a priority this spring. Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact their surgery for further information and advice.
