A new gardening group is starting in Ancient House Museum’s Tudor garden, offering 18 to 25-year-olds the chance to learn gardening skills, meet new people, and gain volunteering experience. Sessions run on Thursday mornings, with space for six participants. The group will focus on maintaining the Tudor Garden while developing gardening techniques useful for personal or professional development. To join email: eve.mathews@norfolk.gov.uk.

Head to Ancient House during the Easter holidays and discover a range of activities. On Saturday 5th April, Brilliant Bugs will explore the insects that live in and around the museum. Visitors can follow a digital trail, make a bug hotel, create a fantasy bug, and take part in a bug hunt for a small prize. The event is part of the Kick the Dust online work experience programme, where young people have helped design the digital trail. Advanced booking is recommended but not essential.
Starting in April, the Ancient House Trails are returning, changing monthly. The Tweep Tweep Trail will focus on birds in the museum collection. Trails are free with museum admission and for Norfolk Museums Service Passholders and Ancient House Friends. These interactive trails encourage visitors to explore the museum in a new way, learning fun facts along the way.
Ancient House is also working with Thetford Power Shift LCEP on Colours of Thetford, a community art project. A pop-up gallery will showcase artwork, poetry, and film in Summer 2025, including self-portraits created in two workshops on Wednesday 23rd and 30th April. Workshops are for children aged 7 to 11, although all ages are welcome. Spaces are limited, to book email: ancienthouse@norfolk.gov.uk with the subject line Colours of Thetford.
