Young hockey players rally behind campaign for new Thetford sports pitch

A campaign to build a new sports pitch for hockey and football to benefit the community is in full swing. This month, we hear from two young people who found hockey, keeping them fit while helping them learn new skills.

Sorise started playing hockey when she was six.

“It is still the only sport I have found that I really like,” she said. “It has been a safe space where I can just unravel and get rid of any stress.”

What she values most is the team, with players at every level helping each other.

Torin started playing aged eight. When the Thetford pitch was resurfaced last year, making it unusable for competitive hockey, he was old enough to move up to the men’s team.

“What makes hockey different is you have to be skilful to keep up with the speed,” he said.

Both say hockey has given them confidence, teamwork and a place to belong. Different sports suit different people, and everyone deserves the chance to learn life skills through play.

Breckland All Sports Enterprise’s crowdfunder is live. Every £1 raised locally helps unlock £3 from major funders, so every donation counts.
