More than 280 students from Thetford Academy took part in the school’s first Sports & Fitness Day, hosted at Breckland Leisure Centre, with a wide range of sports and activities giving students the opportunity to try something new.

With activities extending beyond a traditional track and field sports day, the event was designed to give students of different interests and abilities the chance to get involved and find an activity they enjoyed.
Students, accompanied by PE teachers and support staff, took part in activities including spinning, Body Pump, circuits, badminton, pickleball, short tennis, squash, swimming, indoor bowls and football.

The day also welcomed special guest Ruby Bishop, Team GB Paralympic wheelchair tennis player and disability and inclusion advocate.
To round off the day, Ruby announced that Thetford Academy had been named Norfolk’s Most Inclusive Secondary School Sports Day 2026, recognising the school’s approach to making sport accessible and enjoyable for its students.
Breckland Leisure Centre congratulated everyone involved at Thetford Academy, describing the event as a fantastic day and celebrating the variety of sporting and fitness opportunities available to students.
