Saturday 18th April proved to be an incredible day for Norfolk sisters Chloe, Kacy and Kelsey Suffolk, from Thetford, at the English Short Mat Bowling Association (ESMBA) National Under 18s Championships in Melton Mowbray.

Chloe and Kacy powered their way to the final to make it an all-Norfolk affair, whilst young Kelsey reached the quarter-finals of the plate competition. After a superb final with both Chloe and Kacy in sparkling form, Chloe Suffolk emerged the winner by 10-6.

On her route to the final, Chloe overcame players from Avon, Shropshire and Oxfordshire, whilst Kacy defeated opponents from North Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.

This was 10-year-old Kelsey’s first appearance at the national championships, and she played superbly to reach the quarter-finals – valuable experience for next year.

The girls were introduced to short mat bowls by their granddad, Mick College, who sadly passed away last year. Members of Thetford Short Mat Bowls Club said he would have been incredibly proud of all three sisters and their achievements.

Thetford Short Mat Bowls Club meets at the Charles Burrell Centre on Wednesday evenings and Friday afternoons. Further information is available from Pauline on 07787 875957.
