Thetford Town Council is inviting residents to ‘Party on the Common’ on Saturday 13th June 2026, from 2pm to 8pm, with a full day of entertainment for all ages.

This year’s event embraces a 1960s and 1970s theme, with music at the heart of the celebrations. The main stage will feature a variety of local singing acts, alongside a DJ playing Northern Soul and Motown classics, with funk band The High Points headlining the event.
A display of classic vehicles will add to the nostalgic atmosphere, and attendees are encouraged to dress for the era.
Families can enjoy a dedicated children’s area with a kids’ disco, theatrical performances, roaming dinosaurs and a traditional funfair, while a wide range of food and drink will be available throughout the day.
The event will also feature a special museum tent exploring Thetford in the 1960s and 1970s – a period of significant change for the town, including new housing developments, the London overspill project and the filming of Dad’s Army.

Residents are invited to contribute photographs from the time, showcasing life in the town during that period. It could be local landmarks such as Wilf’s Café, memories of Bowie at the Guildhall, Thetford Carnival, or some of the sports and social club events run by Thetford businesses.
“We’re delighted to bring Party on the Common back for 2026 after the fantastic response to last year’s event,” said Cllr Carla Barreto, Mayor of Thetford. “This year’s sixties and seventies theme is a great opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate Thetford’s history and enjoy a day of music, entertainment and family fun.”
To submit your photographs for the exhibition, please email: katebradley@thetfordtowncouncil.gov.uk or call 01842 754247 to arrange scanning. Please do not send originals by post.
