2026 is the National Year of Reading, a UK-wide campaign encouraging everyone to rediscover the joy and value of reading.

Stewarded by the National Literacy Trust and supported by the Department for Education, the initiative celebrates reading as socially meaningful, culturally visible and personally rewarding. Thetford Library is ready to bring the campaign to life for all ages.
Reading isn’t just about books on a shelf – it’s about connecting with your interests, discovering new worlds and sharing stories with others. Whether you love music, gardening, baking, fantasy or films, the National Year of Reading invites you to “Go All In” and explore all of your passions through reading.
There are plenty of ways to get involved: Start a book club with friends or family and share recommendations, recommend a favourite read to someone else, or explore what the library has to offer – from e-books and audiobooks to storytimes and workshops. Membership is free, so why not pop in and see what sparks your curiosity?
This spring, two key dates give everyone a chance to celebrate reading – World Book Day on 5th March and World Book Night on 23rd April. Thetford Library will have displays, events and booklists to inspire readers of all ages.
Even small steps count. Borrow something new, try a different genre or join a library event. Every page is a chance to discover something new and strengthen community connection. For more information, visit www.goallin.org.uk
