Thetford Players’ latest pantomime, Hansel and Gretel, loosely follows the Brothers Grimm version of the fairy tale, but in true pantomime style. With an original script written and directed by sisters Frankie Soan and Maddie Stebbings, audiences are taken on a journey filled with comedy, friendship, romance, disaster, and triumph.

In the early stages of production, the team faced some challenging casting decisions, and although there were changes along the way, they are thrilled with how everything has come together. Hansel is played by Reece Fuller, following his performance as Squidward in The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition, leading the cast alongside Ebony Bailey as Gretel, showcasing her absolutely belting vocals. Every single person in the cast has worked incredibly hard during rehearsals, taking direction brilliantly and bringing the characters to life just as Frankie and Maddie envisioned, with enthusiasm and heart. This year, About Thetford’s very own George Cooke returns as Dame Victoria Sponge, bringing all the glamour and drama to the stage. The ensemble also plays a vital role, supporting the principal cast with synchronised dancing and harmonious vocal work.

The production is supported by an incredible backstage team, including the return of the live band engineered by Arron “Stix” Peters. Charley Holt returns as choreographer, a vital role, teaching the cast with such patience and kindness. Andy and Carol Smith have poured countless hours of their time into this production working on set and costumes, as have Jo Van der Hulks as Props Manager and Jo Cooper as Executive Producer.

Get ready to cheer, laugh, and boo as our cast brings this traditional tale to life in true panto style. Filled with comedy, dancing, and live music!
