Thetford Singers are delighted to be performing for the second year running in the peaceful surrounds of St Cuthbert’s Church in Thetford.

This is the perfect venue for one of Gabriel Fauré’s best-known works, the Requiem in D minor. Written between 1887 and 1890, it is serene, tender and reflective. The performance by Thetford Singers, accompanied by organist Tom Nichol, will feature two guest soloists: baritone Dave Sadler and soprano Naomi Sturges.

The group will also perform Paul Mealor’s arrangement of Ave Maria, composed for Holy Saturday and reflecting Mary’s solace and grief as her son Jesus is laid in the tomb. Ave Maria is a beautifully calm and peaceful piece of music with glorious harmonies.

Mealor became well-known following the performance of his motet Ubi caritas at the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in 2011 at Westminster Abbey. He has received many awards and honours for his choral works, along with music for film and TV. In January 2024, he received the Royal Victorian Order from King Charles III for his outstanding contribution to Royal Music.
