1. January
A crisp winter morning along the riverside in Thetford. The ground and trees are coated in frost, giving everything a silvery-white glow. A red and black footbridge stands out against the pale landscape, and the stillness of the river mirrors the scene. The town buildings and footpath appear quiet, wrapped in the cold calm of early January.2. February
A dark-fleeced sheep stands alert in a frosty field at Castle Hill. Behind it, the historic earthworks rise gently with a long wooden staircase leading to the summit. The early morning sun casts a warm golden light, picking up on the sheep’s texture and highlighting the still-sleepy landscape of late winter.3. March
Early spring comes to life by the riverside in Thetford. A mill building with a red-tiled roof stands by the water, framed by fresh green leaves just beginning to bud. The river flows gently beneath low branches, catching glints of light from the sky above. It’s a peaceful, awakening moment marking the change of seasons.4. April
A tiny bird perches on a lichen-covered branch, nestled amongst bright green pine needles. The bird looks directly at the camera, framed by soft, dappled sunlight filtering through the trees. It’s a quiet, close-up glimpse of nature in spring, full of curiosity and life.5. May
A lively VE Day celebration unfolds on a sunny village green. A man dressed in vintage military uniform sits in a classic army jeep alongside a smiling woman wearing a 1940s headscarf. Large Union Jack flags fly from the vehicle, while food trucks and festive crowds bustle in the background. It’s a cheerful, community-packed day honouring history and togetherness.6. June
A family of swans relax on the grassy riverbank in the sunshine. Two adult swans are joined by fluffy grey cygnets resting by the water’s edge, surrounded by tall green reeds and purple wildflowers. The gentle water reflects the scene, and leafy trees create a calm, summery backdrop.7. July
The green of Thetford Grammar School comes alive with colour and community during a cultural celebration. Women in bright traditional dress dance together on the lawn, while crowds gather around to watch and enjoy. The old priory ruins and red-brick chimneys form a historic backdrop beneath a blue summer sky.8. August
Thetford Guildhall stands proudly under a sky dotted with fluffy clouds. The historic building is framed by a vibrant foreground of blooming lavender and hanging flower baskets. The red-brick window accents and grand entrance give the scene a warm, summery feel—bright, floral, and quintessentially August.9. September
St. Cuthbert’s Church glows under a crisp September sky, its flint walls and tall clock tower basking in the morning sun. Neatly kept gardens bloom in front, and the street beside it is quiet. It’s a classic snapshot of Thetford’s heritage, captured in the calm of early autumn.10. October
Golden leaves line a winding path through Castle Park as the sun rises in the distance. Trees are turning amber and brown, and the path is flanked by banks of fallen leaves and low fences. The morning mist glows softly in the light, marking the shift into autumn in this tranquil woodland scene.11. November
A beacon blazes against the twilight sky during a remembrance event. A small group of people, including a brass player and veterans, stand in front of the flame, some holding Union Jacks and musical instruments. The sky glows with the last light of day, turning pink and blue behind the symbolic fire.12. December
A festive aerial view of Thetford Market Place lit up for Christmas. Twinkling fairy lights wrap around trees and buildings, and shopfronts glow warmly. The church and streets below are peaceful, with just a few cars parked as the town settles into a cosy December night.

This marks the 8th year of producing the Thetford calendar, and entries are now open for the 2027 competition, closing on Sunday, 31st May 2026 – you can send entries in year round.

The contest welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels, including photography club members. When submitting your photos, remember that the judges consider both the ‘Thetford’ theme and the seasonal relevance—an image ideal for August might not suit January as well. We usually receive fewer winter images, so do bear that in mind.
