Barnham CE Primary School near Thetford has been awarded the School of Excellence award by Thrive, an organisation that trains teachers and other education professionals to support the social and emotional development of children and young people.

The award is the highest level of achievement in Thrive’s Ambassador Schools scheme, which was launched in 2020 to recognise excellence in member schools.
Headteacher Amy Arnold said the school started using Thrive to enhance the social and emotional learning and development of children from early years through to Year 6. “The Thrive Approach has empowered our staff to prioritise children’s mental health and wellbeing across all areas of school life, from outdoor learning adventures to calculating complex Maths problems.”
“We’re incredibly proud and delighted that we have been accredited as a Thrive School of Excellence. It’s a real honour and a credit to our whole staff team. This is a journey we have worked so passionately towards for many years now, and to be recognised is just fantastic for our staff, pupils, parents, governors, and the wider local community.”
Staff were presented with the School of Excellence award plaque at a recent celebration event. Tom Preston of Thrive said: “Barnham CE Primary is an extraordinary place that puts the wellbeing of pupils at the very centre of their work through their use of the Thrive Approach. This award is recognition of that amazing work.” Thrive has been working in partnership with educators and organisations to help young people feel safe, supported, and ready to learn since 1994.
