For generations, the arrival of the funfair has given families a reason to head out together. For L Gray & Sons, that tradition is a family business, with the Grays tracing their fairground history in East Anglia back to the 1600s.

Today, the travelling funfair follows an established route across the region, including regular visits to Thetford. Larry Gray senior has spent his life bringing rides and attractions to local communities, while the family continues to take the fair to events further afield.
There is plenty to choose from when the fair comes to town. Thrill-seekers can head for the Waltzer, Eliminator or Cage, while the Twister and dodgems give friends and families a chance to share the ride.
Younger visitors can explore the funhouse, ghost train and house of mirrors, or try smaller rides including mini teacups, cars and the balloon ride.
Then there are the familiar fairground extras: games, prizes, doughnuts, candy floss, ice cream and popcorn. Whether you come for the fastest rides or prefer watching with a snack in hand, there is room for everyone to enjoy the atmosphere.

L Gray & Sons also organises Thetford’s annual free Firework Spectacular, which returns to Barnham Cross Common this November. The popular event has become another fixture in the town’s calendar, bringing local families together while raising money for the Mayor’s charities.
The family’s history has seen fairgrounds change from horse-drawn equipment to steam power and modern rides. The Grays say community remains central to what they do, and they aim to keep a day at the fair affordable for families.
The business can also bring rides, games, sideshows and catering to private celebrations, festivals and other events. Options range from children’s attractions to larger rides, with the team visiting venues to assess access and available space before providing a quotation.
