We want to celebrate Thetford’s Marvellous Mums!

Readers of About Thetford are invited to pay tribute to their Marvellous Mums in a special collection of stories, posted to our website for Mother’s Day on Sunday 15th March.

Side-by-side photo collage. On the left, an elderly woman with short grey hair and glasses smiles while seated on a train, wearing a pink and white striped top and gold necklace. On the right, a woman and a teenage boy pose closely for a selfie outdoors by the water, both smiling softly in bright sunlight.

Our Editor, Karen’s Mum, Maggie, can often be found in the office (even when she shouldn’t be!) volunteering as our chief leaflet wrangler, sorting the leaflets that are posted with the magazine. Having moved from Chelsea in the 1960s to work for Terence Conran, Maggie is an active member of the community. She sold poppies for many years to raise money for the Royal British Legion and is a keen supporter of Thetford Open Gardens and a much-loved Nanna.

Gen-Z Deputy Editor, George, still lives at home with his Mum, Maria, and thinks she is marvellous because she’s always happy to listen to him have a moan, and collect the occasional dirty mug from his bedside table! She’s a long-standing member of the Thetford community, having moved to the town as part of an RAF family. Originally a regular face at 3rd Thetford Scouts, first as a Queen Scout and then as a Leader, she can now be found helping where she can at Thetford Players, taking photos for the group since 2013 and often donning her purple scarf to help Front of House.

If you’d like to celebrate your Marvellous Mum, including those who are no longer with us, email us at hello@aboutthetford.co.uk and include:

• Your name and your mum’s name.
• A photo of your mum, if you have one and permission for us to use it!
• What makes her marvellous to you – how she goes above and beyond for your family or the Thetford community.
