Thetford Rugby Club’s new season is underway, and supporters have already been treated to a mixture of excitement, promise, and plenty to cheer about.

The build-up began under the lights at Two Mile Bottom, where Thetford produced a sparkling 56–17 victory over Bury St Edmunds 3rds. After weathering early pressure, veteran Ben Goodall rolled back the years to open the scoring, quickly followed by Eagle and Noble. The highlight of the night, however, came with the return of Jordan Fisher. Back in Thetford colours after six years away, he marked the occasion with a blistering second-half hat-trick that delighted teammates and spectators alike. With further tries from Eagle and Healy, the evening showed the depth and attacking intent running through this Thetford side.
Confidence was high heading into the first league fixture away at Great Yarmouth & Broadland. What followed was a classic one-point contest, with the home side edging it 25–24. Thetford had plenty of chances to put the game to bed, particularly in the second half when the wind was in their favour, but Broadland’s stubborn defence and a late penalty proved decisive. It was a case of ‘the one that got away,’ but also a performance full of grit and character.
For supporters, there is plenty of encouragement. The squad has shown both flair in attack and resilience in defence, with returning faces adding extra energy. With the season only just beginning, there is every reason for optimism that Thetford will make their mark in Eastern Counties Greene King Division One North.
