Marc Rolph, Business Manager at School Lane Surgery, reflects on the past year at the practice, thanking patients for their continued support while highlighting fundraising efforts, staff developments, service improvements and seasonal health reminders ahead of winter.

As the year draws to a close, we would like to take a moment to thank all our patients and the wider community for their continued support throughout 2025. It has been a busy and rewarding year for everyone here, and we are truly grateful for the kindness, patience and encouragement we receive from you all.

This year we have been proud to support a number of fundraising events, including our surgery team taking part in the Sunset Walk in the summer to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice, as well as our recent fundraising for BBC Children in Need. We would like to thank our patients for their wonderful generosity in helping to raise money for these important causes. Your support makes a real difference to those in need and is something we deeply appreciate.

We have also welcomed several new members to our team in 2025. Three new doctors have joined us, along with new nurses and HCAs, and additional administrative staff, strengthening our surgery and helping us to provide the best possible care. Each new member brings fresh ideas and enthusiasm, and we are delighted to have them on board.

Our existing staff have also been busy developing their skills, with more training allowing us to offer additional minor surgery clinics. A special well done goes to our clinical pharmacist James, who is now an independent prescriber, and to Neide, who successfully completed her apprenticeship to become our first ever Nursing Associate. Congratulations James and Neide!

Listening to patient feedback has been an important focus for us this year. In response, we have reverted our appointment system to a format that many patients preferred, with the aim of making booking easier and more flexible for everyone. While no system will suit absolutely everyone, we are committed to making it work for the majority. We truly appreciate all the comments and suggestions that help us improve, and we review every piece of feedback received.

You may also have noticed some improvements around the surgery. We have redecorated the building to create a warmer and more welcoming space, and it has been lovely to hear so many positive comments about the new look.

This year we have also worked hard to keep everyone informed and connected. Updates, news, and information are regularly shared on our social media channels and website, so please do follow us online to stay up to date with what’s happening at School Lane. We know how challenging things can be across the NHS, and we are committed to sharing as much information as possible to help keep you informed about the surgery.

As we move into the colder months, we would like to remind everyone who is eligible to have their flu vaccine. It is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others during winter. It is never too late to have it, and the more people who are vaccinated, the harder it is for the virus to circulate in the community.

From all of us here at School Lane, we wish you and your families a very happy and healthy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. Thank you once again for being such an important part of our community.
