Over the past six months, Thetford Library has been delighted to host a series of well-attended and wonderfully engaging talks and events, each offering something unique to our local community.

The season began with Denis Roberts, who shared his intriguing debut novel Norfolk Boy. Attendees enjoyed hearing Denis read extracts from the book and talk about his writing journey, including the path to publication. It was a warm, engaging session that sparked lots of discussion and left readers keen for more.

The Library also welcomed John and Ally Underwood for a truly captivating Antiquarian Book Talk. This hands-on session offered participants a rare opportunity to examine antique books and manuscripts up close. As experienced antiquarian booksellers, the Underwoods also shared fascinating insights into bookbinding and the history behind these remarkable works. It was a memorable afternoon for anyone with a passion for books and the stories they carry through time.
Another highlight came with archaeologist Keith Robinson, who brought the world of the Iceni vividly to life. His talk explored the local landscape in the Iron Age, drawing on archaeological evidence and his extensive knowledge. The session was exceptionally well received, reflecting the ongoing interest in Thetford’s rich heritage.
To round off the half-year, a special combined event featuring Medieval Music with author Rory Marsden. Rory performed using replica medieval instruments, including the gittern and a 13th-century recorder, creating an immersive and atmospheric experience. Alongside his music, he shared insights into his Tales of Castle Rory book series, set in a thirteenth-century kingdom inspired by our region.
Thetford Library looks forward to bringing a bigger range of talks and events to the community in 2026. To keep up to date with what’s on, follow us on Facebook at @thetfordLibraryNorfolk or visit our ‘What’s On’ pages at www.norfolk.gov.uk/libraryonline.
