Young people from across Thetford have been sharing ideas and developing practical solutions for the town’s future through a series of Youth Hack events held at the Guildhall and Thetford Academy.

The ‘hackathons’ saw students, local organisations and community partners working side by side, discussing local issues and developing ideas to improve opportunities, wellbeing and engagement for young people.
Workshops encouraged collaboration and problem-solving, with participants working in groups to develop practical suggestions that can help inform future plans.
As part of the initiative, Thetford has also signed up to the national Power of Youth Charter, a commitment to putting young people at the heart of decision-making and supporting them to take an active role in their communities.

“Thetford’s young people want to amplify youth voice and take real ownership of their town’s development,” said hack attendee Tabbie Bonfield. “The events form part of a wider push to establish Thetford as a Town of Social Action, giving young people a direct voice in shaping local services and opportunities.”
With strong engagement across both sessions, organisers hope to continue the programme, creating further opportunities for young people to get involved.
