Thetford Singers’ Spring Miscellany was well attended, with a full audience at St Cuthbert’s Church enjoying a varied programme under new Musical Director Matthew Gallis.

There was a clear sense of a choir moving forward, with a refreshed sound and a confident start setting the tone for the evening. The programme ranged widely in style, from gentle, reflective pieces such as Irish Blessing to more ambitious works including Earth Song and Nearer, My God to Thee, bringing a different musical texture to the group.
A number of pieces stood out for their warmth and balance, while the inclusion of newer material and guest voices added depth to the performance, including an a cappella performance of Hallelujah by Scarlett Simmons, Charlie Wilson, Sam Trayton and Matthew himself. The choir handled the variety well, with strong ensemble singing and a willingness to explore a new direction.

The evening felt thoughtfully put together, with a mix of familiar and less familiar works keeping the audience engaged throughout. It also marked an encouraging step under new direction, with signs of an evolving sound and growing confidence.
The summer concert will take place on Wednesday 15th July at 7.30pm at The Carnegie.
