The past few weeks have certainly been an emotional rollercoaster for everyone involved in Project 100.
Unfortunately, our planned All In 12-Hour Cricket Match had to be cancelled after not receiving enough team entries. While it was incredibly disappointing after months of planning, we would like to thank everyone who supported the event, especially the local craft stallholders who had spent so much time preparing. We are determined to bring the event back bigger and better next year.
The cancellation has not dampened our determination.
Project 100 has now passed £24,000 towards our £66,000 Crowdfunder target, bringing us another step closer to delivering three new ECB-approved training lanes that will benefit hundreds of cricketers of all ages across our community. We still have around £42,000 to raise, but we remain confident that, together, we can achieve it.
Away from fundraising, the club continues to go from strength to strength. Our Dynamos Cricket programme has now come to an end after another hugely successful summer. It has been fantastic to see so many young children learning the game, making friends and enjoying cricket in a fun and welcoming environment.
The programme has been such a success that we have decided to launch a brand-new Under-11s section, giving our Dynamos players the opportunity to continue their cricketing journey at Thetford Town Cricket Club and develop their skills in a club environment.
We were also delighted to host a local schools cricket festival, welcoming children from schools across the area. The event was brilliantly organised by junior leaders from Thetford Academy, who did an outstanding job running activities and supporting younger pupils throughout the day.
It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying cricket and another great example of local organisations working together to inspire the next generation of players.
Project 100 has always been about far more than cricket nets. It is about investing in our community, creating better facilities for future generations and ensuring Thetford Town Cricket Club remains a welcoming place where people of all ages can enjoy sport, make friends and create lasting memories.
The next opportunity to support Project 100 is a sports quiz hosted by Stuart Terry on Friday 28th August. Teams of up to six people can take part for £5 per person, with the quiz beginning at 7.30pm. There will be friendly competition and prizes, with all proceeds going towards Project 100.
