Thetford Singers are delighted to present their Summer concert with a wealth of wonderful melodies from the musicals. at 7.30pm on Thursday 17th July 2025 – The Carnegie, Thetford.
Ol’ Man River was written by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein for the musical Show Boat in 1925. It compares the endless, steady flow of the Mississippi River with the daily struggles and challenges of African Americans.
Another well-known song, Circle of Life was composed by Elton John and Hans Zimmer, with lyrics by Tim Rice, for Disney’s 1994 animated film The Lion King.
Les Misérables, written by Victor Hugo, is set in 19th-century France. The medley includes At the End of the Day, I Dreamed a Dream, Castle on a Cloud, Do You Hear the People Sing?, On My Own, and Bring Him Home.
You’ll Be Back is a song written by Lin-Manuel Miranda from the musical Hamilton, and is sung in the show by King George III, who is more than unhappy at the rebelliousness towards the British Empire displayed during the American War of Independence. In his words: “You’ll be back!”
Defying Gravity was composed by Stephen Schwartz for the musical Wicked. In this powerful song at the end of Act One, Elphaba embraces her powers and defies the expectations of those around her.
