Compass Community School Eld Park has places available for students aged between seven and seventeen years old. This will come as welcome news to parents of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) – who often find it difficult to secure a well-matched placement in their local area.

Eld Park, in Thetford, was set up in response to the growing need for SEND provision in the region. It is a small, friendly school, which is well accommodated in both classrooms and outdoor space. Eld Park provides a nurturing educational environment for young people, who may have experienced some disruption in a previous provision.

Due to the nature of their work, all teaching staff are SEND trained, in addition to their subject specialisms. Staff at Eld Park use a child-centred, therapeutic approach, to address the issues that may have previously held their students back. This has proven to be highly successful in re-engaging young people with their education, creating excitement about going to school again and enabling students to make sustained academic progress.

The recent OFSTED inspection acknowledged the success of the school, awarding it a ‘good’ grade in all categories. They reported that, “Pupils learn well because the curriculum is well matched to their abilities and targets in their education, health and care plans (EHCP),” further demonstrating OFSTED’s confidence in Eld Park’s teaching methods.

Headteacher, Karen Fancourt, is delighted with the success of Eld Park, “We are all very proud of our students and of the work that we do to help them reach their full potential. It’s great to see our young people doing so well and enjoying school life.”
